Lingolift can be used in a variety of ways in designated ESL/ELD or sheltered English immersion (SEI) programs, whether classes include only newcomers or students with mixed English proficiency levels. Here are some suggestions:
Newcomers Only
- Teacher-Led Lessons – 2-4 times per week (45-60 mins each), starting with social collections and then adding grammar and academic collections.
- Teacher-Assigned Collections – 3-5 times per week (10-15 mins) as indicated, in alignment with curriculum, after 1 month of teacher-led lessons.
- Student-Directed Practice – 3-5 times per week (10-15 mins), as indicated, after 2 months of teacher-led lessons.
- Listenwise ELD lessons – once a week (45-60 mins each) when newcomers are ready (e.g., after 1-2 months of Lingolift teacher-led lessons).
Mixed ELP Levels
- Teacher-Led Lessons – 2-4 times per week (45-60 mins each) in small groups of newcomers, starting with social collections and then adding grammar and academic collections.
- Teacher-Assigned Collections & Student-Directed Practice – 2 times per week (20-30 min each), in alignment with curriculum, for students at higher ELP levels, during newcomer small group teacher-led lessons.
- Listenwise ELD lessons – once a week (30-45 mins each) for students at higher ELP levels initially, and including newcomers when ready.
Here is more information about the instructional options listed above:
- Teacher-Led Lessons – Teachers lead lessons focused on collections of 4-6 interactive video lessons on a topic. Collections include a Teacher’s Guide with resources for instructional activities before, during, and after viewing the video lessons.
- Teacher-Assigned Collections – Teachers assign the Collections of 4-6 interactive video lessons for students to complete in sequence on their own. Learn more about assigning here.
- Student-Directed Practice – Students browse the Lingolift library and select video lessons that interest them. They complete the Watch, Learn, Speak instructional sequence for each video lesson they choose.
- Listenwise ELD lessons – Teachers lead multimedia curriculum-aligned lessons on Listenwise with strong supports for ELs and paired general education versions. Learn more about ELD lessons here.
