Yes, you choose to include or remove the transcript from students on quizzes, either at the class or individual student level!
When assigning a quiz, you choose the comprehension skill(s) you want to assess:
- Listening: students will see only the audio player (with no transcript), and be asked to answer questions based on listening to the audio story. This option was previously called “quiz without listening supports.”
- Listening & Reading: students will see both the audio player and the transcript along with supports such as slowed audio and the Texthelp toolbar. This option was previously called “quiz with listening supports” and offers the most scaffolding for learners, allowing them to read and listen at the same time.
- Reading: students will see only the audio story’s transcript and be asked to answer questions based on reading the text. This is a new option to assess reading comprehension using the transcript as a printed text.
When assigning a quiz, the default setting is Listening (no transcript). Choose Listening & Reading to provide the transcript to students. We recommend including the transcript for all classes to begin. As students’ listening skills and stamina improve, you can slowly turn off the transcript for students.
To help with differentiation, you can customize resources within a class and only allow specific students to see the transcript:
- Click on the class name to reveal the student roster.
- Choose which students to assign the quiz to.
- Choose which skill to assess for each student.
- Click Assign!
