Activity: Kick off a new unit by listening to a story together and then have students complete assignments independently. This allows you to build background on a new topic and provide extra support to ensure students understand the content before their independent work.
- Create a written assignment or quiz for students to complete after your synchronous listening.
Tip: You can schedule assignments to be released at a specific time (check out the video below for more). - Listen to the story together. Share your screen with students so that they can read the transcript as they listen. Use the Teacher’s Guide (when available) to guide you through learning activities before, during, and after listening.
- Use the comprehension and discussion questions to facilitate a class discussion. Listen to the story as many times as students need to understand it, replaying sections if it's helpful in clarifying answers to questions.
- As a follow up activity, have students complete the assignment or quiz you previously created.
