The Listenwise platform offers teachers the ability to provide students personalized feedback on their written assignments, powered by our new Writing Assessor tool. Teachers can make comments or ask questions before asking students to revise their responses if needed, as well as score the overall assignment. This functionality provides an opportunity for formative assessment, allowing teachers to check student understanding, which can inform future instruction.
Because the comprehension questions are open-ended, we do not provide answer keys. For the Writing Prompt, the Writing Assessor instantly analyzes student writing, providing key insights on ELP levels and areas of improvement to inform your feedback.
It’s up to your discretion on how you want to review and grade student work. Tips for providing feedback can be found in this article.
1. To review written assignments, you can find a specific assignment under Tasks. You can also click on a class name under My Classes on your dashboard and then click See Responses for the assignment you want to review.
2. On this page, you will see the status of student submissions, which is color-coded to help you quickly see who started or completed assignments. We also provide a “time spent” column to give you insight into how long students have spent on each assignment. Once you grade work, the assignment score, ELP writing level, and/or feedback will also populate here.
3. Click on a student’s name to review their work. There are three parts for you to review and provide feedback to students:
Comprehension Questions:
Because these questions can be more open-ended and can be assessed many ways, we provide a box for you to leave feedback for the student related to to their comprehension of the audio story. You may choose to share feedback or leave this box blank.
Writing Prompt:
The built-in Writing Assessor instantly analyzes student writing, providing key insights on ELP levels and areas of improvement to inform your feedback. Learn more about how the Writing Assessor works here.
Click the Assess Writing button to generate the feedback!
The Writing Assessor provides feedback on the student's writing strengths and suggestions for improvement. You can easily edit and add additional comments to further customize your feedback.
Assignment Score & Overall Feedback:
Lastly, you have the option to score the overall assignment before sharing your feedback with the student! The assignment includes comprehension questions, writing prompt, and other activities. You can explain your score in the box below it, if you choose.
5. If you’d like a student to revise their work (or maybe they submitted incomplete work), check the Student needs to revise box to allow students to edit their assignment and re-submit back to you.
6. When you're done reviewing the assignment, click Share Feedback with Student or Share Feedback and Go to Next Student to automatically bring up the next available assignment to review.
