All video lessons on Lingolift have been carefully curated by educators and are typically 30 seconds to 3 minutes long. Every video lesson on Lingolift includes an embedded Watch, Learn, Speak instructional sequence, which guides students through watching the video, learning the words, and speaking the lines from the video. This article will break down each step of the interactive video lesson.
Lesson Information
On every video lesson, you’ll find a title, summary, and these key pieces of information:
ELP level: This is the English Language Proficiency level that the content is appropriate for. All Lingolift video lessons are for ELP levels 1-4. Click on the ? for more info or check out this article to learn more.
Category: Every video lesson is categorized as Social, Academic, or Grammar
Topic tag: These tags help you find related lessons on similar topics
The video lesson itself is broken into three parts: Watch, Learn, and Speak. Each part is described in more detail below.
Watch the Video
During Watch, students can utilize any of the embedded scaffolds (i.e., English captions, slower speed) to help them better understand the vocabulary and content as they watch the video. See this article for an overview of the available supports.
One key support is the ability to click on any word in the English captions and see a definition. These words are then added to a student’s customized vocabulary list and further practiced during the Learn and Speak steps.
Only available on student accounts, the Texthelp toolbar can be used to look up a word in English or picture dictionaries or translate it into any of 15+ languages. See this article for more on the vocabulary practice options.
Learn the Words
During Learn, students see clips from the video along with the English captions and are asked to type in the word missing from the sentence. They are given immediate feedback. If they get the word wrong, they are shown the definition and then allowed to try typing the word again.
Speak the Lines
During Speak, students see clips from the video along with captions again, and this time are asked to speak the lines. They are given immediate and personalized pronunciation feedback.
As students complete each step of the lesson, data will be captured so that you can review their work and monitor their progress. Review this article to learn more about Watch, Learn, Speak reporting.
Implementation
You can choose to assign video lessons for students to complete synchronously or asynchronously. See this article for more information about assigning work to students.
If the video lesson is part of a collection, it will also include a Teacher’s Guide with activities for direct instruction before, during, and after viewing videos on relevant topics. This article has more information about the Teacher’s Guide.
