We are excited to announce that Listenwise now has a collection of video-only lessons! Covering popular topics across ELA, social studies, and science for grades 2-12, these 3-6 minute video lessons offer a new way to incorporate engaging multimedia content into your lesson plans. Video lessons offer the same instructional flexibility you’re used to with Listenwise: play the video for the class for a whole group discussion or assign it to students to watch independently! Video Lesson Teaching Resources
Video lessons have all of the teaching supports and resources that you’re used to with Listenwise audio lessons!
Teacher’s Guide:
The Teacher’s Guide is broken into different tabs for Before Viewing, During Viewing, and After Viewing. Each part is organized similarly, with resources to help teachers save time and maximize student engagement:
- Strategy Tips: Generic strategies to help teachers, like “activating prior knowledge,” with suggested activities, such as “ask students what they know about the topic.”
- Lesson Details: Customized resources for each lesson that can be plugged into each strategy, like background building questions specific to the lesson’s topic. This is where you’ll find vocabulary lists and comprehension questions like you’re used to on Listenwise!
Organizers: Each section of the Teacher’s Guide includes a generic organizer to support student learning during each part of the lesson, which can be printed or used digitally. However, they cannot be added to a digital assignment in Listenwise.
Standards: All video lessons will be aligned to your state standards for ELA, social studies, science, and ELD for grades 2-12.
How to Assign and Grade Video Lessons
Just like audio lessons, we offer the option to assign a multiple choice quiz or customizable written assignment for video lessons. The process to assign and grade is exactly the same!
Quizzes: Assessing specific comprehension skills like main idea and vocabulary, quizzes can be assigned to a whole class or individual students. They are auto-graded and you can review quiz reports from your Classes page. For more on quizzes, see this section of the support center.
Written Assignments: You can customize which supports students can see (i.e. the Texthelp toolbar) and edit the questions students answer in your assignment as needed. Video lessons include writing prompts, which can be analyzed by the Writing Assessor! You can review and grade student submissions from your Classes page. For more on written assignments, see this section of the support center.
