Here’s a breakdown of our standards-aligned lessons and their Premium features:
Story Summary & Lexile Audio Measure
Each lesson begins with a synopsis of the story students will hear. The top of the lesson page also provides information about the Lexile Audio Measure, illustrating the complexity of the audio story. The orange links will guide you through the assignment creation process for quizzes, written assignments, and directly sharing audio.
Audio and Interactive Transcript
The heart of a lesson page is where you’ll listen to the audio story. Scroll down the lesson page to view the interactive transcript, which allows students to read along as they listen. Audio is also available at a slower speed for extra support while listening. If you’re listening as a whole class, you can share your screen and let students read along together.
Assignment Resources
Lesson resources are divided into different tabs. The second tab provides materials educators can include in a written assignment for students or use for whole group listening activities. Our listening comprehension questions and discussion themes elicit deeper thinking and varied perspectives into lesson content. Vocabulary lists and listening organizers assist students with understanding the story’s subject matter. External materials provide surrounding context for a thorough exploration of themes.
Teacher’s Guide
This tab provides educator guidance before, during, and after listening to lesson stories. These directions provide plug-and-play options for your instruction and save you lesson planning time. Along with curriculum connections and content standards, Listenwise aims to blend lessons into the instruction already presented to your students.
Scaffolding
This tab isn’t on every lesson, but if available, it provides additional scaffolds for striving readers and multilingual learners. You will find simplified comprehension questions and a close listening guide for increasing comprehension. Tiered vocabulary and language practice aim to meet literacy objectives through particular aspects of the story.
Quiz
If a lesson has a quiz available, you’ll see a quiz preview so you can review the questions and answers, as well as preview the student experience before assigning work.
Class Activities
A selection of Listenwise lessons offer class activities, which include additional ideas to teach the content and align with your curriculum goals.
